Of Baba’s esteemed eleven assurances, the 8th assurance is “If you look at me, I look at you.”

Whether we visit temples to see Baba or bow down to Him in our shrine, it is not the physical eyes that “look at” Baba, but it is the eye of the inner self or our consciousness that looks at Baba. This consciousness that is unhindered by the doubts and distractions of the physical mind when connected with Baba, truly looks at Him.

As Mohanji explains in this video, when we look at Baba, or in other words consciously connect with Baba, we are invoking Him. This conscious connection needs to be established with stable faith and sincere conviction. Mohanji explains that an example of such connection with conviction is Hanuman with Rama. The depth of this connection allowed for Hanuman to become himself a powerful deity.

If you look at me

This stable connection with sincere conviction is also extolled by Baba Himself.

A story is mentioned in Chapter 35 of Sai Satcharitra, where a friend of Baba's devotee went to Shirdi out of curiosity but with no faith in Baba. When he entered the Masjid (mosque where Baba stayed), Baba spoke to him in the voice of his father with the exact same tone as well as words that his father used to speak. This sent a thrill through his body and he placed his head on Baba’s feet. Then Baba said, “You do away, destroy the Teli's wall (sense of difference) between us, so that we can see and meet each other face to face”. This “seeing” or “looking” at Baba is through conscious connection with faith, leaving aside the doubts and distractions of the physical mind.

I look at you

When we look at Baba with faith and conviction, Baba sees it and reciprocates equally.

Baba does not need His physical form to connect with anyone and is beyond the realm of the body or the personality. Mentioned in Chapter 33 of Sai Satcharitra is a story of a saint of Mumbai named Balabuva Sutar, who went to Shirdi to see Baba. Baba said, “I know this man since four years”. Balabuva wondered and thought how this could be as that was his first trip to Shirdi. But thinking about it seriously, he recollected that he had prostrated four years ago before Baba's portrait in Mumbai. Balabuva’s reverential bowing down to Baba’s photo was noticed by Baba. As sung in Baba’s aarti, “Jaisa bhava waisa anubhava” (as is the feeling or the connection, so is the experience).

Mohanji explains in the video that the reciprocal response from Baba is equal and clear. This response from Baba is tangible and can be in any experiential form that brings about a transformation in the person.

This is the reason why even after more than hundred years, Baba’s presence is still felt by millions of people worldwide.

Bringing Baba's Presence to Virginia

Construction is underway to bring Shirdi Sai Baba's idol and presence to the beautiful Appalachian mountain area of Virginia.

The upcoming temple at the Mohanji Center of Benevolence in Virginia will be consecrated during a powerful Prana Prathista ceremony on April 21, 2024. This temple space will serve as a place of rejuvenation and connection to Baba for all who walk on these grounds.

We invite you to participate in bringing Baba's Presence to life for the benefit of all.
