Harmony is the music of life - a combination of different notes strung together to play a beautiful melody. Whether these different notes are playing inside our own mind or are being played by different people we interact with, the way we act and react will help to pull all these notes together into a melodious and joyful arrangement.
In this article, we’ll explore Baba and Mohanji’s practical words on “harmony”.
Mohanji speaks of inner harmony as the inner space that everyone must protect and maintain irrespective of what is happening around them. Mohanji further explains how to maintain this inner harmony by not constantly judging, comparing, and competing with other people but instead by accepting situations with flexibility.
He also speaks of maintaining outer harmony with others by respecting people and never stealing, betraying, or exploiting anyone - even when people are rude or unkind to us.

Shirdi Baba on maintaining harmony
As mentioned in the Sai Satcharitra, Chapter 43 and 44, Shirdi Sai Baba said, “He who carps and cavils at others, pierces Me in the heart and injures Me. But he who suffers and endures, pleases Me the most.” Baba likes nothing better than love for all beings and maintaining this love even in difficult situations.

The following words of Baba in Chapters 18 and 19 of the Sai Satcharitra contain practical applications to help us maintain harmony.
"Unless there is some relationship or connection, nobody goes anywhere. If any men or creatures come to you, do not discourteously drive them away, but receive them well and treat them with due respect. Shri Hari (God) will certainly be pleased if you give water to the thirsty, bread to the hungry, clothes to the naked, and your verandah to strangers for sitting and resting.”
“If anybody wants any money from you and you are not inclined to give, do not give, but do not bark at him like a dog.”
“Let anybody speak hundreds of things against you - do not resent by giving any bitter reply. If you always tolerate such things, you will certainly be happy. Let the world go topsy-turvy - you remain where you are. Standing or staying in your own place, look on calmly at the show of all things passing before you".
These messages of Baba and Mohanji serve as powerful reminders for each of us to maintain our outer harmony - but this outer harmony being based firmly in stability in our inner space. Regardless of the ups and downs or difficulties that we may be witnessing in our outer world or relationships, we can always remain loving with no expectations of how others are to us.
